Four Players from Four Conferences Earn Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll in Week One

Award Presented by Texas Roadhouse to Most Versatile Player in Major College Football
Louisville, Ky. – Sept. 3, 2025 – Four players representing the Big Ten, American, ACC and Big 12 conferences were named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for their performances in week one of the college football season. Making the list are Jonah Coleman, Washington; Quinton Jackson, Rice; Cam Ross, UVA; and Smith Snowden, Utah.
The National College Football Awards Association will honor Snowden as the Paul Hornung Award Player-of-the-Week for his performance in the Ute’s big road win over UCLA.
Washington senior running back / return specialist Jonah Coleman touched the ball 26 times three different ways for 225 all-purpose yards and two scores in the Huskies’ 38-21 home win over Colorado State. Coleman scored on a 26-yard run in the first quarter and a three-yard run late in the game as Washington pulled away from a halftime tie. He carried the ball 24 times for 177 yards, returned a punt 11 yards and a kickoff 26 yards.
Rice junior running back / return specialist Quinton Jackson touched the ball 26 times four different ways and scored once in the Owls’ 14-12 win over Louisiana Lafayette on the road. Jackson’s one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter opened the scoring for Rice. He carried the ball 22 times for 119 yards and six first downs, caught one pass, handled two kickoff returns and one punt return.
Virginia senior wide receiver / return specialist Cam Ross touched the ball 11 times three different ways and scored two different ways in the Wahoo’s 48-7 win over Coastal Carolina. Ross caught a 29-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter then returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score in the third quarter and Virginia rolled over the Chanticleers in Charlottesville. He caught seven passes and handled one punt return.
Utah junior defensive back / offensive skills player Smith Snowden played 22 snaps on offense, 22 snaps on defense and three snaps on special teams and scored once in the Utes’ 43-10 road win over UCLA. Snowden led the Utes in receiving with six catches for 51 yards and his eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter proved to be the winning score. He recorded one solo tackle on defense and handled two kickoffs.
The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 18 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 19th vote.
