Louisville, Ky. – Sept. 9, 2026 – Five players representing the Big Ten, ACC, SEC and Notre Dame were named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for their performances in Week 1 of the college football season. Making the list are Wayne Knight, UCLA; Turbo Richard, Indiana; Tre Richardson, Louisville; Isaiah Sategna III, Oklahoma; and Aneyas Williams, Notre Dame.
The National College Football Awards Association will honor Knight as the Paul Hornung Award Player-of-the-Week for his performance in UCLA’s road win over Cal.
UCLA senior running back / return specialist Wayne Knight touched the ball three different ways for 157 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the Bruins’ 45-24 win over Cal in Berkeley. Knight carried the ball eight times for 71 yards and scored on runs of eight, 31 and four yards, with his 31-yard scamper in mid-fourth quarter proving to be the game-winner. He also caught two passes for 30 yards, returned two kickoffs for 56 yards and accounted for six first downs from scrimmage.
Indiana junior running back / return specialist Turbo Richard touched the ball 18 times three different ways for 145 all-purpose yards and scored twice in the Hoosiers’ 52-16 home win over North Texas. Richard carried the ball 15 times for 58 yards and scored on runs of two and one yards. He also caught one pass for 38 yards and returned two kickoffs for 59 yards. Richard accounted for three first downs from scrimmage, and his 41-yard kickoff return to midfield ignited an IU touchdown drive.
Louisville senior wide receiver / return specialist Tre Richardson touched the ball six times three different ways and scored two different ways in the Cardinals’ hard-fought, 41-38 loss to No. 9-ranked Ole Miss in Nashville. Richardson’s 31-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter gave UofL a short-lived, 13-10 lead and his 62-yard, blazing touchdown reception later in the quarter tied the game at 24. He accounted for two first downs from scrimmage and fair caught one punt.
Oklahoma senior wide receiver / return specialist Isaiah Sategna III touched the ball seven times three different ways for 215 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Sooners’ 51-0 rout of UTEP. Sategna recorded 115 yards on punt returns, including an 88-yard score in the first quarter; he also caught four passes for 76 yards, including a 34-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. He accounted for four first downs from scrimmage, all on scoring drives, and returned one kickoff for 24 yards.
Notre Dame junior running back / return specialist Aneyas Williams touched the ball 23 times three different ways for 143 all-purpose yards and scored twice as the Fighting Irish defeated Wisconsin 41-13 at Lambeau Field. Williams carried the ball 20 times for 90 yards, including scoring runs of three and five yards in the second half as Notre Dame put the game away. He also caught one pass for 13 yards, returned two kickoffs for 42 yards and accounted for four first downs rushing and one receiving, all on scoring drives.
The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 18 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 19th vote.
